Starring Johnny Depp as Inspector Frederick Abberline and Heather Graham as Mary Kelly, “From Hell” follows an opium-huffing inspector from Scotland Yard who falls for one of Jack the Ripper’s prostitute targets in this Hughes brothers adaption of a graphic novel that posits the Ripper’s true identity.

This movie was put on my Netflix queue simply because it had Johnny Depp and Heather Graham in it. I blindly put it on, with only a slight glance at the description. Well, I can’t say it was worth my time at all.

The movie is about Jack the Ripper, and its actually quite amusing because they “hide” his face until the end. But I figured it out the first time i saw the character walk into his first scene. It’s all like “oh, you won’t believe who turns out to be Jack the Ripper!” but I’m all like “wow, where’s that easy button when you need it?”.

There were some random scenes in the movie that just didn’t seem to fit. Some doctors, I guess, made some dude out of random body parts? Kinda like a Frankenstein’s monster i suppose. I dunno what was up with that.

The best part of the movie was Heather Graham, hubba, hubba! I have loved this chick since I saw her as Felicity Shagwell in “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me”. Also, Johnny Depp rocked his role. Him and his british accent. It was kinda funny that he was an opium addict the whole movie though.

All in all, leave this one be. It was a big gore fest with a bunch of ugly prostitutes (except Heather of course) getting done in allies and then killed. That’s not fun for anyone. Plus the ending was horrible. What a let down.
